## Quick answer Members of the Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) are not eligible for the active-duty dental program. Instead, they and their families can purchase coverage through the **TRICARE Dental Program (TDP)**, a premium-based plan managed by United Concordia.
## Details The TRICARE Dental Program (TDP) is a voluntary, premium-based insurance plan available to National Guard and Reserve members who are not on active duty. When a Reservist is called to active duty for more than 30 consecutive days, they transition to active-duty dental benefits, while their families remain on the TDP at a lower premium rate.
### 2026 Monthly Premiums Premiums for the TDP are adjusted annually on May 1st. For the period of May 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026, the monthly rates for National Guard and Reserve members are:
* **Sponsor only:** $12.36 * **Single (one family member):** $30.89 * **Family (more than one family member):** $80.33 * **Sponsor and Family:** $92.69
*Note: Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) members typically pay higher premium rates than Selected Reserve members. Check with United Concordia for specific IRR tier pricing.*
### Coverage and Cost-Shares The TDP covers a wide range of services, though cost-shares (the percentage you pay) vary by the type of service and the sponsor's pay grade (E-1 through E-4 vs. E-5 and above):
* **Diagnostic & Preventive:** 0% (Fully covered) * **Basic Restorative (Fillings):** 20% * **Complex Restorative (Crowns/Bridges):** 50% * **Orthodontics:** 50% (Up to a lifetime maximum of $1,750) * **Periodontics/Endodontics:** 30% to 50% depending on rank.
### Annual Maximums As of 2026, the TDP has a **$1,500 annual maximum** per person for non-orthodontic services. There is an additional $1,200 annual maximum for dental accidents.
### Enrollment and Contractors Unlike TRICARE medical plans, which are managed by Humana Military (East) or TriWest (West), the TDP is managed globally by **United Concordia Companies, Inc.** Enrollment requires a minimum 12-month commitment.
## Who this affects * **Selected Reserve:** National Guard and Reserve members in an active status. * **Individual Ready Reserve (IRR):** Both volunteer and non-volunteer categories. * **Family Members:** Spouses and unmarried children (up to age 21, or 23 if a full-time student) of the above groups. * **Survivors:** Eligible surviving family members of deceased Guard/Reserve sponsors.
