## Definition The TRICARE East Region is one of two geographic zones in the United States where TRICARE healthcare services are managed and delivered by a specific private contractor (Humana Military).

## What it means in practice If you live in the East Region, your healthcare experience is defined by the contract held by Humana Military. This region covers 30 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa (Rock Island area), Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri (St. Louis area), New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas (eastern portion), Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and the District of Columbia.

In practice, being in the East Region means you will interact primarily with Humana Military for administrative tasks. This includes finding a doctor in the provider network, checking the status of a referral or prior authorization, and paying your monthly premiums if you are enrolled in a plan like TRICARE Reserve Select or TRICARE Young Adult. For example, a TRICARE Select enrollee in Georgia would use the Humana Military portal to track their 2026 catastrophic cap progress ($1,320 for Group A active duty families).

It is also important for beneficiaries to recognize the "seams" between regions. If you move from the East Region to the West Region (managed by TriWest Healthcare Alliance), your coverage does not automatically follow you in a seamless administrative handoff. You must update your address in DEERS and, in some cases, proactively transfer your enrollment to the new regional contractor to ensure there is no lapse in coverage or issues with claims processing.

While clinical benefits and pharmacy coverage (managed by Express Scripts) are uniform across the country, the local provider networks and customer service teams are specific to the East. For 2026, most TRICARE Prime beneficiaries in the East Region must see providers within the Humana Military network to avoid Point-of-Service charges, which typically include a $300 individual deductible and 50% cost-sharing.
