## TRICARE in Colorado Colorado is part of the **TRICARE West Region**. As of January 1, 2025, the regional contractor for the West is **TriWest Healthcare Alliance**, which replaced Health Net Federal Services (HNFS). Beneficiaries in Colorado, including those stationed at Schriever Space Force Base, access their benefits through TriWest's network of civilian and military providers.

## Major military installations Colorado is home to several high-priority installations representing the Space Force, Army, and Air Force:

* **Schriever Space Force Base** (Space Force) – Ellicott (near Colorado Springs) * **Peterson Space Force Base** (Space Force) – Colorado Springs * **Fort Carson** (Army) – Colorado Springs * **United States Air Force Academy** (Air Force) – Colorado Springs * **Buckley Space Force Base** (Space Force) – Aurora * **Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station** (Space Force) – Colorado Springs

## Plans available in Colorado TRICARE beneficiaries at Schriever SFB and throughout the state can choose from several plans depending on their status. Note: 2026 rates apply to Category A and B beneficiaries.

## Finding care in Colorado For those stationed at **Schriever Space Force Base**, medical care is often coordinated through the 21st Medical Group at Peterson SFB or the Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson, as Schriever itself has limited medical facilities.

1. **Provider Directory:** Search the **TriWest Healthcare Alliance** website for the "West Region Provider Directory" to find network doctors in Colorado Springs, Falcon, or Aurora. 2. **Network vs. Non-Network:** Using a TriWest network provider results in lower out-of-pocket costs (2026 copays apply). If you use a non-network provider under TRICARE Select, you may be subject to higher deductibles and cost-shares. 3. **Telehealth:** TRICARE covers secure video conferencing for many services. In Colorado, residents can use network telehealth providers for mental health and primary care consultations without a referral in many cases (though Active Duty Service Members always need a referral).

Common questions for Colorado beneficiaries

**How do I get specialty care while stationed at Schriever SFB?** Since Schriever is a restricted-access installation with limited medical resources, most Prime enrollees are assigned a Primary Care Manager (PCM) at Peterson SFB or Fort Carson. If your PCM determines you need specialty care, they will submit a referral to TriWest for a civilian specialist in the Colorado Springs area.

**I am moving (PCS) from Colorado to the East Region. What happens?** Because Colorado is in the West Region (TriWest), a move to the East Region (Humana Military) requires a transfer of enrollment. You should contact Humana Military as soon as you arrive at your new duty station to update your address in DEERS and select a new PCM.

**Does Colorado Medicaid (Health First Colorado) work with TRICARE?** Yes. If you are eligible for both, TRICARE is the primary payer and Medicaid is the payer of last resort. Inform your providers that you carry both coverages to ensure proper billing.
