TRICARE in Oregon
Oregon is part of the **TRICARE West Region**. Since January 1, 2025, the regional contractor providing managed care support in Oregon is **TriWest Healthcare Alliance**, which replaced the previous contractor (Health Net Federal Services). TRICARE.com is an independent reference site; for official policy and enrollment, visit the government's site at TRICARE.mil.
Major military installations
While Oregon does not have a large active-duty "Mega-base" like Fort Moore or JBLM, it maintains a significant National Guard and Coast Guard presence across several key installations:
* **Portland Air National Guard Base** (Air National Guard) – Portland * **Kingsley Field Air National Guard Base** (Air National Guard) – Klamath Falls * **Camp Rilea Armed Forces Training Center** (National Guard) – Warrenton * **USCG Sector Columbia River / Air Station Astoria** (Coast Guard) – Warrenton * **USCG Station Yaquina Bay** (Coast Guard) – Newport * **USCG Station Coos Bay** (Coast Guard) – Charleston

Finding care in Oregon
Under the T-5 contract, **TriWest Healthcare Alliance** maintains the network of civilian providers for Oregon.
* **Provider Directory:** Beneficiaries should use the TriWest West Region provider search tool to locate "Network" providers. Using network providers results in lower 2026 out-of-pocket costs and no requirement to file your own claims. * **Non-Network Providers:** Oregon has a large rural population. If you see a non-network provider, you may be balanced billed (up to 15% above the TRICARE allowable charge) unless they are "participating" providers. * **Telehealth:** TRICARE covers secure video conferencing for many services in Oregon, including mental health, which is vital for members in the high desert or coastal regions far from Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs).
Common questions for Oregon beneficiaries
**I am PCSing from Joint Base Lewis-McChord (Washington) to Portland. Do I need to switch plans?** Since Washington and Oregon are both in the West Region managed by TriWest, you do not need to switch regions. However, you must update your address in DEERS and, if you are on TRICARE Prime, you will likely need to request a PCM change to a local provider in the Portland area.
**How does TRICARE work with Oregon Health Plan (OHP/Medicaid)?** If you are eligible for both TRICARE and the Oregon Health Plan (OHP), TRICARE always pays first. OHP is the "payer of last resort." You must inform your providers that you have both so they can coordinate benefits correctly.
**Are there any Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) in Oregon?** Oregon has very limited MTFs (primarily small clinics like the Coast Guard clinics in Warrenton or North Bend). Most Oregon beneficiaries, including those in the Portland metro area, receive their care through the civilian TRICARE network rather than on-base clinics.
